The Jackson Heights Orchestra (JHO) will open its fifth season on Dec. 14 with a concert at St. Mark’s Church
at 7:30 p.m. The orchestra has had the pleasure over the past four years of presenting a variety of concerts to the Jackson Heights community and other neighborhoods
in Queens and Long Island, and it is excited to start the fifth season. In celebration of this anniversary, the JHO commissioned composer Peri Mauer to write a new work. Ms. Mauer, an accomplished composer, is a two-time recipient of the ASCAP Plus Award (in 2015 and 2014). The commissioned work, “All Along the Heights,” is filled with the energy and rhythms that represent our neighborhood. Additionally, JHO soloist Thomas Piercy will perform the clarinet concerto by the Czech composer Krommer. Mr. Piercy frequently performs in Manhattan and Tokyo; we’re excited that he will be joining us. Along with these two works will be J.S. Bach’s Chorale Prelude BMV 680 (orchestrated by Stokowski) and Mozart’s Symphony #35, known as the “Haffner.
