Founded in 2012, in partnership with the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), JHBG-sponsored community composting JH-SCRAPS (Scraps Collection for Restoring the Area’s Poor Soil) began collecting the neighborhood’s organic waste. Our finished compost is used throughout the neighborhood in tree gardens and those in public spaces for the enhancement of depleted urban soils and for improving water retention, both of which support resilience in response to climate change.
Located at the SW corner of 35th Ave. & 69th St., SCRAPS is open every Saturday, all year round, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Come by and drop off your food waste during our hours of operation.
